Round Table “Reducing HIV-related Burden in the Republic of Moldova”

On 8 June 2010 the Institute for Human Rights in Moldova (IDOM), in partnership with Association “New Life” and Civic Center “Pas cu Pas” from Cahul district, organized in the premises of the City of Cahul a round table entitled “Reducing HIV-related Burden in the Republic of Moldova”. The event took place within the Project under the Global Fund Round 8 Grant.

This event was attended by 5 members of the IDOM staff as well as 26 representatives of different key bodies from Cahul, such as Department of Social Assistance and Family Protection; General Division of Education, Youth and Sport; Preventive Medicine Center; Maternity Hospital; Civil Status Office; Family Doctors’ Centre; Cahul Police Office and other specialists in the field, teachers, psychologists, epidemiologists, etc.

The subjects approached and discussed within the round table were the following:

1. Identification of the problematical character and difficult situations in terms of respecting the rights of persons living with HIV/AIDS in Cahul district;

2. National mechanisms for the protection of the rights of persons living with HIV/AIDS. The role of LPA, medical officers, Department of Social Assistance, NGOs, and other monitoring and registration bodies of the persons living with HIV/AIDS to prevent the discrimination of persons living with HIV/AIDS, as well as to promote their inclusion.

3. Joining the efforts to overcome the situations leading to discrimination of persons living with HIV/AIDS in Cahul district.

 

The above-mentioned subjects generated lively discussions and debates with the involvement of all the participants.
