Small Grants Program: Involvement growth of nongovernmental sector in tuberculosis control

Purpose: To increase the involvement of non-government sector in TB control.

Treatment of tuberculosis is a long and complex process. It is shown that only a definite synergy between state institutions and civil society representatives can bring results infighting tuberculosis.

Despite the fact that medical treatment is provided by the national program for control of tuberculosis (TB), TB patients need support through counseling, education as well as through social mobilization activities.


GLOBAL REPORT 2010

New UNAIDS report shows AIDS epidemic has been halted and world beginning to reverse the spread of HIV. New HIV infections have fallen by nearly 20% in the last 10 years, AIDS-related deaths are down by nearly 20% in the last 10 years, and the total number of people living with HIV is stabilizing.

On the 7th of December during a press conference organized by the Ministry of Labour, Social Protection and Family was presented the study “WOMEN’S VULNERABILITY TO HIV AND AIDS IN THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA 2010and winners of the photo contest received their awards.


Events dedicated to 1st of December , 2010

Since 1988 the international community marks the International Day of fight against AIDS. Traditionally, every year, as of December 1, thousands of messages are launched to promote responsible behavior of each individual to stop the spread of HIV infection.

In order to mark World AIDS Day, besides other activities, an Award Ceremony was organized as of November 30, 2010, the second consecutive year, for outstanding initiatives of behalf of people and communities which demonstrate involvement and leadership in reducing the spread and the impact of AIDS at national level.


Film Festival Dedicated to Human Rights

From December 3, 2010, Institute of Human Rights launches a Film Festival Dedicated to Human Rights, 2010 edition.


Funding Opportunity: MSM Initiative - Eastern Europe and Central Asia

The Foundation for AIDS Research, is pleased to announce new funding for innovative projects that address HIV/AIDS among men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender individuals (TG) in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Grassroots organizations led by or closely linked to MSM/LGBT communities in low- and middle-income Eastern European and Central Asian countries are encouraged to submit relevant proposals. Funds for this round of awards are made available through the generous support of the Austrian AIDS Life Association and Aids Funds.

This competition is organized within the project "Film Festival dedicated to Human Rights, Edition 2010", an activity funded by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania.


TDV - 13 years!

On November 20, "Youth for the Right to Live" from Balti marked 13 years of working in the field, 13 full years of daily work, 13 full years of results, rewards, programs and new initiatives, partnerships and true friends. There are joys that can not be yelled, there are values that are intended to be perpetuated, because only in this way, through mutual support, in good and bad times, in moments of joy and despair, we go through life together.


Dance4Life Event

On November 27 before World AIDS Day, tens of thousands of young people from 27 countries located on five continents, will address the message to stop the spread of HIV infection. More then 3,000 young people from Moldova will participate in the international satellite connection to dance together with tens of thousands of young people around the world to inspire the world and to remind the world leaders about the promises they made vis-à-vis the objectivesof the Millennium Development Goals.


Study of GNP + for young people living with HIV

If you are HIV-positive and aged between 15 and 30 years, you can earn up to $ 75, spending just 15 minutes of your time for the next poll.

Young people living with HIV (Young PLWH) play an important role in the response to HIV. However, very few young PLWH currently participate in the activities of various organizations working in HIV.

Provision of graphic design services for UNAIDS Moldova

Given the importance of establishing a Monitoring and Evaluation system in the field of HIV/AIDS in Transnistria, it is essential to build the capacity of local specialists in this area. Besides, there are difficulties in institutionalizing a proper regional M&E system and clear reporting channels to the national level.

In this context, UNAIDS announces the recruitment of two international consultants who will conduct a workshop aiming towards strengthening M&E in Transnistria region as an integral part of the national system.

Recruitment of Office Assistant/Translator for UNAIDS office in Moldova

The Office Assistant /Translator will work under the direct supervision of the UNAIDS Country Coordinator and will be responsible for assisting in daily general administrative and secretarial tasks such as -managing reception (telephone, fax, printer, visitors), managing the library with literature of technical interest in HIV/AIDS/STIs and provision of support in ensuring a good communication flow between the office and various stakeholders and partners.

HIV Impacts MDGs on Maternal and Child Health

Ten years after committing itself to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) at the Millennium Summit in New York, in September 2000, the Republic of Moldova issues its Second Millennium Development Goals Report. The report prepared by the Government, with the support of the United Nations in Moldova, identifies the progress made by Moldova in meeting those eight goals. It also outlines the steps that will be taken in the next five years which will be decisive for the fate of those commitments.

XVIII International AIDS Conference
July 19, 2010

International AIDS Conference started on July 18 and gathered more then 20 000 participants, representatives of state bodies, UN Agencies, and civil society. The opening ceremony began with a video message form Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon reiterating UNAIDS’ new vision for the AIDS response: zero new infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS-related deaths. 


Eastern European Countries Show Increasing New HIV Infections while some Harm Reduction Programmes Are Decreasing

UNAIDS is concerned that a number of counties in this region are reporting reductions in critical investments in the AIDS response.

Eastern Europe and Central Asia is the only region where HIV incidence clearly remains on the rise. Early indications are that the number of newly diagnosed HIV cases in 2009 has increased since 2008. Russian Federation has reported an 8% increase in reported cases, Georgia a 10% increase and Belarus a 22% increase.

Injecting drug use remains the primary route of transmission in the region. Use of contaminated equipment during injecting drug use was the source of 57% of newly diagnosed cases in eastern Europe in 2007. An estimated 3.7 million people in the region currently inject drugs, of which one in four are believed to be HIV positive.

New UNAIDS OUTLOOK Report 2010 Launched
July 15, 2010

Ahead of the XVIII International AIDS Conference to be held in Vienna from 18 – 23 July, UNAIDS has launched its OUTLOOK Report 2010 in Geneva.

Key findings:

The new UNAIDS Outlook report outlines a radically simplified HIV treatment platform called Treatment 2.0 that could decrease the number of AIDS-related deaths drastically and could also greatly reduce the number of new HIV infections.

Namibia Lifts Travel Ban for People Living with HIV
July 08, 2010

UNAIDS applauds the decision by the Government of Namibia to lift its travel restrictions for people living with HIV and align the country’s legislation with international public health standards. The reforms—which took effect on 1 July—also remove entry restrictions against people living with other contagious diseases.

Restrictions that limit movement based on HIV-positive status only are discriminatory and violate human rights.There is no evidence that such restrictions prevent HIV transmission or protect public health. Furthermore, HIV-related travelrestrictions have no economic justification, as people living with HIV can lead long and productive working lives.

UNAIDS Welcomes International Labour Standard on HIV

A landmark labour standard was adopted today by governments, employers and workers at the annual conference of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The standard aims to strengthen the global response to HIV in the workplace.
