PAS Center (former MedNet Center) was established in 1999 to take over the activities of the Medical Internet Program of the Soros Foundation – Moldova and ensure its sustainable development. PAS Center is an independent, not-for-profit, non-political organization. In 2007 the organization completed its reorganizations, including the reform of its goals and objectives and during this reorganization PAS Center took over initiatives from the American International Health Alliance Inc (AIHA). Since 2003 AIHA carried out a comprehensive program aimed to strengthening TB control in Moldova working together with the Ministry of Health, Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and other key partners. About 80% of AIHA staff moved to PAS Center to assure sustainability and continuation of the TB training and communication program initiatives.

Mission:

  • Build up a democratic society through contribution to the improvement and development of health and social sectors, capacity building and reform supporting.

Purposes:

  • contribute to the development of democratic values;
  • promote health and social system focused on individuals;
  • develop, analyze and elaborate health and social policies;
  • analyze and develop strategies for social and public health interventions;
  • support health and social reform process;
  • promote healthy life style;
  • promote public involvement in decision process;
  • contribute to human resources development.

PAS Center Today:

PAS Center is a dynamic organization with highly motivated professionals working in social and public health areas: policy development and advocacy, programs implementation, monitoring and evaluation, qualitative and quantitative research, capacity building, informational campaigns etc. Specifically, PAS Center is qualified to take over the following tasks:

  • health program implementation, including financial management and reporting;
  • capacity development in HIV/AIDS, TB and other public health areas, including recruiting and training of medical doctors and nurses from all over the country;
  • training of journalists on how to write about HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and other social diseases;
  • guidelines development, approval, printing and distribution;
  • sub-contracting other organizations, including through small grants.

PAS Center implements the following projects:

  • HIV/AIDS Projects: Strengthening ARV Treatment Adherence in Moldova, Providing Support to Orphans and Vulnerable to HIV Children, Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS and Training on VCT and Second Generation Surveillance in HIV/AIDS;
  • TB Projects: Strengthening TB Control in Moldova;
  • Other Projects: Development of Guidelines on Treatment, Care and Support for Injecting Drug Users in Moldova, Salzburg Seminars Program, HIV Prevalence among New Registered TB cases in Moldova – operational research.
