Detailed Description of Key Areas
Mother-to-child transmission
- Primary prevention – including protection of women of reproductive age from HIV
- Family planning services – including safe and volunatry abortions, when necessary
- VCT services – which, where and for who
- Stigma and discrimination relating to MTCT, children born from HIV positive mothers, HIV positive mothers and their rights
- Strengthening Antenatal facilities – including provision for HIV testing
- Training – for staff involved in MTCT
- Purchasing and storage of ARV drugs and replacement feeding
- Counseling – before notification of results, during ARV regimen and for follow-up
- Management and administration – including planning and supervision of project and follow-up of mothers and infants
Palliative Care
- Palliative services – home care, in-hospice care, multi-disciplinary palliative care teams in hospitals, day centers, etc.
- Access to palliative services
- Medication and other materials and equipment needed
- Development, production and distribution of IEC materials on Palliative Care
- Training – of all staff and particularly of the infectionists who will have responsibility for working withPLHA; includes refresher training. Some training sessions of family members of PLHA and NGOs should also be taken into account
- Strengthening Palliative Care facilities – including costs for palliative care units
- Implementation of curriculum – comprises development of curriculum on PC for medical educational settings
- Management and administration – including planning, supervision and evaluation
Treatment
- Training – of all staff and particularly of the infectionists who will have responsibility for working withPLHA; includes refresher training
- Strengthening of hospital facilities – including diagnostic equipment, medical equipment and consumables
- Implementation of curriculum – comprises development of curriculum on ARV for medical educational settings
- Supply and storage of ARV drugs and drugs for opportunistic infections – before notification of results, during ARV regimen and for follow-up
- Management and administration – including planning, supervision and evaluation
STI treatment
- Development/distribution of diagnostic and treatment protocols – including strengthening of existing laboratory facilities
- Training – including clinical and support staff
- Diagnosis – includes both laboratory and syndromic diagnosis
- Counseling – including drug and condom provision
- Partner notification – partner tracing, notification and counseling
- Management and administration – including planning, supervision and evaluation
