WAD2016: WHO launch the 2016 Progress Report and a new Guidelines on HIV Self-testing

In advance of World AIDS Day, WHO has released new guidelines on HIV self-testing to improve access to and uptake of HIV diagnosis. According to a new WHO progress report lack of an HIV diagnosis is a major obstacle to implementing the Organization’s recommendation that everyone with HIV should be offered antiretroviral therapy (ART).

16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM: UNAIDS calls for action to keep girls in school and eliminate gender-based violence

In support of the annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which begins on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on 10 December, Human Rights Day, UNAIDS is calling for urgent action to keep girls in school, end gender-based violence and reduce girls’ vulnerability to HIV.

STEP-UP training programme of the EATG Training Academy

The STEP-UP programme is designed for people living with HIV, their health care providers, civil society representatives and other professionals who work in the field of advocating for the universal access to HIV/AIDS treatment, care and prevention.


Since 2010, the annual global number of new HIV infections among adults (15 years and older) has remained static, at an estimated 1.9 million. Members of key populations, including sex workers, people who inject drugs, transgender people, prisoners and gay men and other men who have sex with men, and their sexual partners accounted for 45% of all new HIV infections in 2015.
