UNAIDS Board Underlines the need for a fully funded response to HIV to allow more countries to get on the Fast-Track to Ending Aids by 2030

At its 39th meeting, the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board welcomed the significant progress made in the response to HIV and stressed the need for sustained investment, strengthened commitment, partnerships and innovation to enable more countries to accelerate the delivery of services to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030.

WAD2016: WHO launch the 2016 Progress Report and a new Guidelines on HIV Self-testing

In advance of World AIDS Day, WHO has released new guidelines on HIV self-testing to improve access to and uptake of HIV diagnosis. According to a new WHO progress report lack of an HIV diagnosis is a major obstacle to implementing the Organization’s recommendation that everyone with HIV should be offered antiretroviral therapy (ART).

In support of the annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which begins on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on 10 December, Human Rights Day, UNAIDS is calling for urgent action to keep girls in school, end gender-based violence and reduce girls’ vulnerability to HIV.

The STEP-UP programme is designed for people living with HIV, their health care providers, civil society representatives and other professionals who work in the field of advocating for the universal access to HIV/AIDS treatment, care and prevention.


HIV PREVENTION AMONG KEY POPULATIONS

Since 2010, the annual global number of new HIV infections among adults (15 years and older) has remained static, at an estimated 1.9 million. Members of key populations, including sex workers, people who inject drugs, transgender people, prisoners and gay men and other men who have sex with men, and their sexual partners accounted for 45% of all new HIV infections in 2015.

FOOTBALL STARS PROMOTE HIV PREVENTION IN CHINA

Two major stars of the footballing world have joined forces to encourage young people in China to get informed and protect themselves from HIV. UNAIDS Special Ambassador for Youth and China-Africa Collaboration, Gervinho, and UNAIDS National Goodwill Ambassador for China, Shao Jiayi took part in an event with Chinese media called Sports For Change which was moderated by another UNAIDS National Goodwill Ambassador, the television personality, James Chau. OPPORTUNITIES TO EXPAND LOCAL PRODUCTION OF PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS IN AFRICA

Leaders of private sector organizations, investors, civil society and United Nations representatives met in Nairobi, Kenya, during the World Investment Forum 2016 to discuss business opportunities for expanding local production of pharmaceutical products in Africa and beyond.  The event was part of efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and particularly to improve access to testing and treatment for HIV, TB and other health conditions.

În data de 30 iunie a avut loc Dialogul Național de nivel înalt din Republica Moldova privind asigurarea tranziției cu succes la finanțarea națională a Programelor de reducere a riscurilor. La reuniune s-au întrunit reprezentanți ai sectorului public, instituțiilor guvernamentale din domeniul sănătății, finanțelor, justiției; ai partenerilor de dezvoltare și societății civile. Motivul organizării acestei întruniti a fost de a identifica platforme pentru asigurarea finanțării durabile a programelor de prevenire a infecției HIV/SIDA.


MESSAGE ON THE INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING

Today is the first International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking since the adoption last year of the Sustainable Development Goals.  Goal 3 calls on countries to strengthen the prevention and treatment of narcotic drug abuse, end AIDS and combat hepatitis.  Goal 16 is designed to help to build peaceful, just and inclusive societies and institutions that can address illicit drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism.

2016 HIGH-LEVEL MEETING ON ENDING AIDS
United Nations General Assembly New York | 8–10 June 2016

In 2015, the world delivered on the AIDS targets of Millennium Development Goal 6—halting and reversing the AIDS epidemic. This remarkable achievement marks the first time a global health target has been met and exceeded. By mid-2015, the number of people accessing antiretroviral therapy reached nearly 16 million—double the number just five years earlier. Ending AIDS by 2030 is an integral part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were unanimously adopted by United Nations Member States in 2015.
