International Memorial Day of People Who Died from AIDS (May 15, 2011)
The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, is one of the world’s largest grassroots movements against HIV and AIDS, spreading hope and uniting communities. The overall objective is to unify communities to reduce stigma and discrimination against HIV positive people, ensuring Universal Access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support, increase solidarity and promote involvement.

From Sunday 3rd to Thursday 7th April, in Beirut was held the 22nd International Harm Reduction Conference. This event was organized for the first time in the Middle East and North African region. More than 1400 delegates from around 80 countries have taken place in this conference. The theme of Harm Reduction 2011 was “Building Capacity, Redressing Neglect”.

Recruitment of a consultant for M&E system assessment
In order to design an effective M&E work plan to operationalize the National M&E Plan, a new M&E system assessment needs to be carried out to assess participatory the functionality of each of the 12 components of the M&E system. The pre-workshop stage involves a detailed inventory of M&E system strengthening interventions and preparing packages of supporting information per component. In order to undertake the pre-workshop preparatory work, and to facilitate discussions during the workshop, UNAIDS Moldova intends to secure national consultancy.
High Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS and Civil Society Hearing in preparation
This year will be an important year for HIV/AIDS as it marks 30 years of the emergence of AIDS, ten years of the landmark United Nations General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS and the resulting Declaration of Commitment, and five years since the 2006 High-Level Meeting where the commitment to Universal Access to prevention, treatment, care and support was made.

United Nations in Moldova launches a competition for the best action to promote and protect human rights. Being at the 7th edition, the contest aims to highlight and reward the most valuable initiatives and actions to protect and promote human rights by NGOs and media.
World Health Organisation has selected "Combating antimicrobial resistance: No action today, we will not have any more treatment tomorrow" as the theme for World Health Day this year. The appearance of antimicrobial resistance is a complex issue that involves a range of stakeholders. This must be urgently approached through an aggressive and comprehensive response across sectors, within and between nations.
Support services for refugee women
On April 4, 2011, within the Public Association Save the Children Moldova, medical supplies were distributed to women and girls of reproductive age among asylum seekers, refugees and persons with humanitarian protection.
Training program "Capacity Building Training of Trainers from NGOs"
In the framework of the program "Strengthening Civil Society in Moldova", financed by USAID and implemented by AED, in the period April to September 2011 will be held an extensive training program "Capacity building training of trainers from NGOs."
The purpose of the training program, designed and provided by AXA Nonprofit Consulting www.nonprofit.axa.md is to develop, among trainers of various NGOs from Moldova, advanced training skills.
Transnistria presents its regional specifics in terms of institutional infrastructure and hierarchy, most being inherited from the Soviet Union and being largely untouched by reforms. A simple extrapolation of the existing M&E system levels and organizational structures that function on the right bank is not feasible. In order to paint an in-depth picture of the existence and functionality of M&E system components on the left bank, a team of national consultants shall carry out a needs assessment.
