GTZ represents the German Technical Cooperation Bureau (Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit) and has been supporting the Republic of Moldova since 1994. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GTZ is helping the country to manage the economic transition process, supporting different areas as economic and social one.
Up-to-date GTZ is implementing the project "HIV/AIDS Prevention in Eastern Europe" in area of HIV/AIDS. It is a supraregional project, including Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus. The project has the objective to improve the HIV/AIDS prevention in the vocational training sector and in enterprises in Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus.
The project advises vocational training establishments and enterprises on developing prevention measures for youth and young adults. Associations of employers and employees as well as the labour ministries are also assisted in drafting national guidelines for HIV/AIDS workplace programmes. Components of support consist of technical and organizational advisory services by international and local experts, subsidies for training measures and local subsidies for government and non-governmental organizations for the purpose of refining existing approaches and developing innovative measures.
The lead executing agency on behalf of Moldova is Ministry of Education and Youth. Ministry of Education and Youth of Moldova and German Technical Cooperation Bureau have signed the Memorandum of Understanding on implementation of regional project "HIV/AIDS Prevention in Eastern Europe" in Republic of Moldova as of March 12, 2009.
The project objective for Republic of Moldova is development and improvement of strategies and methodologies to promote a healthy life style within vocational schools. For pilot-phase of the project, a competition will be announced for selection of project partners – 4 vocational schools (2 from cities and 2 from districts).
